"Why can't we have a car, daddy?" "Because parking in New York is a bitch."
Kasper Vandela climbed out of the yellow cab as it pulled up infront of the Movie Theater. He looked up at the building, then glanced up at the bright, clear blue sky. Then, he smiled and reached his hand out into the car, as a little girl with light brown hair wearing blue jeans, converse, a blue shirt with a red jacket on over it came into view. She had pretty green eyes that were always flamed with excitement and they too went straight to the building. She took Kasper's hand, and he helped her out of the cab. Kasper waved at the Cab, muttering a thanks, and turned to smile at his daughter, Emily. "You said the B word!" She said, accusingly, pointing at her father. Kasper laughed, reaching forward and gently closing his hand over her little one, enveloping her hand into his like he had done with her beautiful mother so many times before. A pang in his heart came when he thought of her. "I'm sorry. Now can we look for a movie to go see?" he asked, gazing fondly at his daughter before looking up at the movie titles.
Emily smiled widely and the four-year old went running forward, tugging her tall father along with her. He laughed but followed her. The little girl stopped right below the movie titles and stared up at the screen. She couldn't read, but claimed she could. Then she turned to Kasper, a grin on her face. "I wanna see Kung Fu Panda." She announced, putting one hand on her hip, the other was still incased in Kasper's. Kasper glanced up at the movie titles. "How do you know it's even playing?" He said, watching her. She smiled slyly. " 'Cause it says so up there." she said, pointing up at the movie titles. Kasper laughed. "You can't even read, you Little liar! I do believe I heard you watching TV before we left the house and a Kung Fu Panda commercial came on. " He said, bending down and poking her sides. Emily burst into fits of laughter, batting Kasper's hands away, but he still kept coming back. He laughed, smiling as he watched her laugh.
Kasper finally scooped her up under one arm and pulled open the glass doors, walking into the cool movie theater. Emily giggled. It smelled like butter in there. Kasper walked over to one of the ticket counters, and Emily began to struggle to get free from his grip. The girl behind the counter eyed him suspiciously, but he didn't even really notice it. "Two tickets to Kung Fu Panda, please love." he said, reaching with his free hand to tickle Emily a little bit before he reached into his back pocket and pulled out some money. Emily laughed again, looking over at the girl behind the counter. The girl behind the counter raised her eyebrows but shrugged. She gave him the tickets and Kasper gave her the cash. "Daddy, lemme downnnnn!" Emily said, sticking her tongue out at him. The girl behind the counter's expression was surprised. "Daddy?" She murmured to herself. Kasper set Emily down on her two feet and she attached herself to his leg, stepping her little feet on his big foot. Kasper smiled at Emily before looking up at the girl behind the counter. "Yeah. I'm Daddy." He said, then walked off, stepping rather awkwardly with his daughter's weight on one leg, the girl behind the counter watching after them with a shocked expression on her face.
Kasper stumbled over to the candy counter, almost falling against it and glaring down at Emily. "Okay, munchkin. Off." He said, messing with her hair. She giggled and stepped off his feet but held on to his leg with one arm and sucked the thumb of her free hand. "A large popcorn and a Coke please." "And Gummy Bears!" "No Gummy Bears this time, Em." "GUMMY BEARSSS!!" Sigh. "Fine." He was handed a bottle of Coke, a Large bucket of buttery popcorn and a bag of gummy bears. Emily grabbed the Gummy bears and Kasper smiled at her and handed the guy behind the counter the cash. Then he grabbed the coke and popcorn, and walked towards the move rooms. Emily reached into her father's pocket and pulled the tickets out. She went on her tip-toes and handed the girl the tickets. The girl smiled at her. "Thanks sweetie." she said, ripping the tickets in half and handing the stubs back to Emily. Emily smiled and skipped off, with Kasper following behind her.
Emily ran into the large room. Some people were already seated, and they turned to look at her as she made her noisy entrance. She ran up the steps until she reached the very back and sat down next to the wall where the projection room was. Kasper slowly followed after her, not wanting to spill anything, and the lights were beginning to dim by the time he got up and sat down next to her. "Your a booger, you know that little girl?" He said, putting the popcorn down in the empty seat beside him and putting the soda in the drink holder. He leaned to the side though and kissed Emily's forehead, his eyes closing for a brief second before he rubbed her shoulder. Emily pushed the cup holder between them up so she could lay against her father, her head on his chest, eating her gummy bears. Kasper smiled at her, kissing her hair again, as the lights began to slowly disappear and the commercials slowly reach the end.

it was a mommy daughter day today completely. jessi may had woken whitney up bright and early with loud giggles and jumping on her mother's bed squealing "mommy wake up! mommy! mommy wake up!" yes sleeping in was beyond rare in the machado house hold with the bubbly brunette child, but whitney wouldn't trade her life for anything. she was living the way she wanted to. she had the most wonderful gift from god, jessi may. that little girl brought a smile to whitney everyday.
the morning started out with whitney making chocloate chip pancakes for her daughter, and watching the typical show. hannah montana. most three year olds were obsessed with shows like jojo's circus, and blue's clues. but little jessi may was not. she wasn't fond of the childish shows really. twenty-four seven the tv was on hannah montana. thank god for tivo. whitney ahd almost every show recoded, or put on dvd. and if jessi may wasn't watching hannah montana she was watching movie after movie.
not too long after breakfast whitney pulled ingredients from the cupboards tobake cookies. whitney put a head band in her daughetrs hair to keep the short brown bob out of her face. jesi wore a bright smile the entire time, she loved to bake and help her mom cook. it was one of her favorite things to do. and whitney loved that jessi may would rather do something like cooking then watching tv. she saw it was a good sign.
it was battle time after the cookies went into the oven. whitney chased ehr daughter all over the house,a dn up and down the stairs. yes it was none other then bath time for the little girl. but the chase was full of laughter. ten minutes passed and whitney finally got jessi may into the bath tub, and from there it was bubble fights and more giggles. after the bath whitney blow dried her daughters hair and then put her into some jeans, salt waters and a purple hannah montana shirt jessi insisted on wearing.
whitney went and checked on the cookies while jessi played in her room, she pulled them out to cool and then headed back down the hall to get ready for the day. "hey baby girl, mommy's going to go get dressed okay?" jessi may nodded and whitney then walked into her room across the hall. she took a quick shower, and then blow dried her long brown hair straight. then it was the hard part, figuring what to put on. she stared at her closet with her blue eyes, so confused as to what to place on her tiny body. many people thought she ahd an eating disorder because she was so dainty. but she really didn't have one.
whitney pulled out a new dark denim skirt she ahd just bought. she looked at it, then let her eyes fall down to her riding boots and a smile spread across her face. her hands qyuickly fell back into her closet and pulled out a forest gree knit top with buttons half way up the shirt. she grabbed a brown tank top to throw on underneath and then quickly slid into her outfit. whitney heard jessi may squeal, and quickly ran out of her room into the living room scared to death.
she held her hand over her chest breathing heavily seeing jessi may was okay. the little girl ran over to her mother and began jumping up and down. "movies momma! movies! movies! movies! movies!" whitney hushed the little girl and nodded while speaking."okay honey chill, we can go to the movies." jessi may ran to the door and tugged at it, trying to get into the garage. whitney laughed and followed the little girl, grabbing her tote and her's and jessi's sweatshirts that hung on a coat rack adn opened up the door for her daughter.
after buckiling jessi may into the car, turning hannah montana on and backing out of the garage the drive to the theater was full of laughs. well until it came time to park. it was an arguement to get jessi to be quiet so whitney could focous. she hated yelling at jessi, but parking in new york was pretty much impossible. after parking, whitney hurried into the theater the movie was to start in five minutes.
"two for kung fu panda please" the woman behind the counter looked at whitney rather rudely. jessi had been tugging on whitney's hand saying "mommy hurry! mommy hurry!" over and over again. yes whitney was only nineteen, and had a three year old. she really just wished people would accept this. after getting the tickets whitney hurried over to the refreshment counter and ordered soem treats quickly.
"uhm,.. a small popcorn,.. diet pepsi,.. bag of M&Ms... and a small white cherry slurpee please". Yet again dirty looks, but whitney was more focoused on her daughter right now. after getting her things, she handed jessi may her drink and candy and then walked to the theater door. she handed the girl the tickets and then went inside.
she had to hush jessi may as she let out a squeal in excitement. "jessi may hush" whitney got dirty looks from a few people, and she softly apologized and nudged her daughter on. whitney took a deep breath and steered her daughter into some seats. she noticed a man and his daughter a few seats away from where they sat. it made her softly smile.
whitney went to turning her phone off when she heard jessi may's bubbly little voice trying to whisper. "hi!.. i'm jessi may" a wide smile spread across the little girl's voice as she tried to get the other little girl's attention. whitney pushed her hair behind her ears and turned bright red. she lightly tugged jessi may back and quickly began to apologize. "i'm so sorry,.. she's really hyper. sorry"

As the lights went out, Kasper felt Emily shift uncomfortably in his lap. She was afraid of the dark, like most children her age. "Its okay." He whispered to her, rubbing her shoulder comfortably. She whimpered but relaxed against his chest again. Kasper leaned down and kissed her hair again, taking in her familiar, sweet scent. She smelled like her mother, and looked like her and acted like her. It broke his heart. But he was glad that he had a piece of Beth still with him, when she was not. Emily's mother, Beth, had died about an hour after Emily was born. The doctors said that she was just too weak from the child birth. That she was too young, and her body was too small and fragile. Kasper blamed himself for her death. I mean, it was him who had gotten her pregnant, yes? It was all his fault.
An empty feeling throbbed through him. He pulled Emily a bit closer to him, his arms tightening around her small body just a little bit, burying his face into her shoulder. Emily didn't seem to care, as she nibbled on her gummy bears and watched the screen, which for some reason still had commercials flashing across it. Kasper soon got over his grief and looked up at the screen, his eyes adjusting to the bright lights coming off it, after being closed in darkness for so long. He hadn't been to the movie theater in a long time. Usually, Emily would stick to the movies they had at home, especially her favorite movie, 101 Dalmatians. Emily loved animals, and her personality screamed "FUTURE VEGETARIAN". She refused to wear fur of any kind, unless it was proven to be totally fake. She liked to wear this pink leopard print jacket that her grandmother[or Mema, as they called her] got her for her third birthday. But that was about it.
Kasper saw two dark figures sit down a few seats away out of the corner of his eye, and he pulled Emily a bit closer to him protectively. That was, until he saw that one was a little girl about Emily's age, and a pretty young woman next to her. Then, he loosened his death hold on his daughter, and she gave him a look. She already knew how protective he could get sometimes. She didn't pay attention to the people who sat next to her until someone called out in her direction.
"hi!.. i'm jessi may"
Emily looked over at the people and saw a girl around her age staring at her with a wide smile on her face. Emily smiled and waved. "I'm Emily!" she whispered loudly. Then she giggled, because she knew that wasn't much of a whisper, and so did the people infront of her, because they looked back at her and glared. Emily shrugged them off but looked at the girl and her mother. Kasper looked over when the little girl who had just sat down called out to his daughter. Then, he could hear the woman beside the little girl apologize and pull the girl closer to her, like her had done before. Obviously, she was the girl's mother. But she was so young . . . like him. Kasper smiled softly in the darkness. "Don't worry about it." He said, with an assuring nod, before looking down at Emily and glancing at the screen. The movie was starting. "The movies starting, Em." He whispered to her, and she immediately drew her attention back to the screen, settling herself snuggly in his lap again.

Jessi may was such a handful at times, and every time they went to the movies it was the same thing every time. Whitney had little daughter days like this with jessi may normally twice a month, though the last few months it had only been once. Whitney had just become so busy with school, and the harassment wasn’t getting any lighter nor easier to take. Jessi may was just like her father in everyway, she was very outgoing, stubborn, and just so everything opposite to whitney. Whitney was quiet, and shy. But one thing jessi may had gotten from her mother was the whole scolding thing, the little girl loved to scold people in public. Next to pretending to be Hannah montana it was her favorite thing to do. It brought whitney laughter to see the three year wave her finger and shake her head at people, or bring her little finger up and hush them. But she knew it wasn’t a good habit.
Whitney noticed that the young girl was with a younger man, she didn’t know if he was her older brother of if he was in the same shoes she was. She took note of his actions with the small girl who rested upon jessi may’s own age. She guessed that he was indeed the little girl’s father by how protective he was over the little girl. His actions a lot like her own would be. Whitney smiled softly and brought jessi may closer to her, just so she could keep better eye on the squirmy little girl. Jessi may was a quick and very intelligent little girl, which made things difficult on whitney a lot. That little girl could find a way out of anything easily.
Jessi may sat quietly for nearly the rest of the movie, which whitney found really rather surprising. This was something her daughter never did, she was always doing something. Whitney had got her hopes up about actually making in through the movie with no further disturbances, but she got her hopes to high. Whitney looked down to where jessi may had been sitting and saw the little brunette girl no longer sat in the seat next to her. Whitney’s heart began to race and she jumped up out of her chair, people yelled at her but she didn’t even listen she was a worried and panicked mother right now. And all she cared about was finding her daughter.
Whitney’s blue eyes danced furiously over the theater until they landed on a small girl in a hot pink dress with bob cut crawling up the aisle towards a group of teenage boys about fourteen of fifteen being extremely loud. The movie had ended and credits were now pouring as whitney scurried up to the last row in the theater to stop her daughter. When she got there jessi may was scolding the teen boys, and whitney quickly scooped the little girl up stopping the word flow from the tiny lips. ”you boys need to be quie-..’ whitney looked to the boys as they snickered, and then stopped. One of them tapped another on the shoulder and said something into his friends ear, whitney rolled her eyes and walked back to where she had been sitting to get her purse. ”jessi may you cannot do that, you gave mommy a scare.” whitney scolded jessi may as she picked up her things, but jessi may was more focused on the little girl she had introduced herself to.
The lights were now coming back on and jessi may smiled and waved furiously giggling all the time. Whitney kept trying to gain her daughter’s focus, but that was a task simply impossible to do. Whitney sighed as she heard the boys saying things about her being “hot” and what not, and crack up. She didn’t remember boys being that immature when she was their age. Then again she had hung out with an older crowd while in high school too. Jessi may turned around and stuck her tongue out at the boys and then giggled and burried her face into her mothers long dark hair. Whitney couldn’t help but let it slide this time. She kissed the top of the little girl’s head and then looked to the man and the small girl and softly smiled before picking up her things the best she could with holding jessi may at the same time squirming in her small delicate arms.
