` take time to realize ,
Cady reached over to pat Evan on the head, but before she could do so Brett's infamous audacity showed through. Brett was somebody -- or so it seemed -- that only a select few could handle. So far, the only equals that had ever survived her 'wrath' were Tinsley, Cady, and now Keatie. Even Keatie was a little on edge about it. Cadence, however, was the one who had full view of her best friend. She was in constant connection with her. They had been through so much that it would take years to even begin to write a book about their friendship. Sure, they had their ups and downs, and it was strange how easily Cady could handle her craziness. If there was anything that Cady learned about Brett, it was that she needed space in times like these. Why do you think she wasn't over there comforting her? She looked about ready to kill some one.
Cady honestly didn't know whether to be afraid for everybody's lives or simply laugh. She chose the latter of the two -- being Cady -- and looked her up and down with her eyes squinted. "You need help." she teased. Sometimes Cady wasn't so good at getting her to calm down when she was trying to joke, but she hoped that it would have Brett distracted. She heard her threaten Evan with her shoe. Oh, Lord. When Brett simply stared at her she faltered and looked back quickly to Evan, then towards Brett again.
"Look, this isn't helping, Brett. Evan's just trying to help..." she ran her fingers through her beach-blonde hair and sighed. She let her hands drop to her lap, staring at them for a moment before looking up towards Brett who still had the 'say another word and i'll kill you, evan' look. "Just.. calm down. We all just need to calm down. Deep breaths. He didn't mean anything personal." It was common among her expressions when Evan was around, and Cady had gotten used to the fact that her best friend wasn't very found of many people. Especially Evan. When they were dating, it took a shopping spree, Brett's favorite resteraunt, and -- if Cady didn't know any better -- a magic encatation that didn't even phase her. Metaphorically speaking, of course. The point was, that not even all of that made Brett anywhere near happy to be in the presence of Cady's ex.
When Evan had become the 'ex' of Cady, Brett had totally dropped the idea of even pretending to like him. Forget that! Being nice to somebody you never really liked? Pish posh. Cady didn't really mind, but she was still friends with Evan. Brett could show a little more tolerance for him. She, however, was Brett Kite. She didn't waste time on things like pretending. Cady did, obviously. Pretending that her feelings for Evan were completely friendly-ized was just one false story she had yet to find wasn't true. She had a tendency to live in fantasy worlds that neither existed nor falsely did. Only in Cady's mind did they harbor a true meaning. She found the reality of her emotions towards certain things (i.e Evan) far too confusing to waste time on. So, this being so, she chose to 'pretend' to be friends.
She looked around at the group again, watching Jude play around with Evan as he passed and remembering how Brett and Tinsley had made fun of him and Jensen. Jude's girlfriend was lovely, really. Cady wasn't one to harbor enemies or waste time on being unnessacarily unkind. Jensen Westley's brother was one of Cady's very best friends and, unlike Brett, she didn't have a problem with Jensen. The girl was very (and somewhat overly) epicene with everything she did. Very valley-girl esque. Sometimes Cady did question how Jude got along with her so well. They looked good together, but it was strange to Cady how they got along so well. Anyway, it wasn't her relationship be questioning, so as long as Jude was happy, so was Cady. Jude was one of the good guys, and Cady valued that. It was his sister that came off as such a brutal judge. But Brett was one of the good people as well.
Cady thought of her circle of friends. There was Brett Kite, of course, New York's biggest sarcastic bitch. There was Tinsley Carmichael, known best for being Waverly's very own tramp. Then there was Keatie DeVille, a party-goer that was constantly drunk and ditzy, and the newest addition to their circle. That was what everybody else saw, though. What Cady saw in them was so different that you'd thinks he was describing different people. Brett Kite, the fun, spirited girl who had a huge heart despite what people thought. Tinsley Carmichael, one of the sweetest and most humerous people you'd ever meet. Keatie DeVille, a fun and bubbly girl that everybody should love. That was exactly what seperated Cadence from the people around her. She saw the good in everybody. Even those who were, though few in number, her 'enemies'.
A sigh escaped her lips and she toyed with her fingers, staring at them and waiting for Brett to react. Hopefully things would be looking bright and sunny soon, but Cady had a feeling it would take a lot longer than she had originally planned. This was going to be a long night.
